Yeah they do look boring but i had a go at some of them from the link and it was kinda a good feeling to play them right and feel the rhythm flowing nicely. I think i prefer to watch a video of someone doing them so i can just copy. Rather than work from a book. To me, that seems like doubling the monotony.

I'm studying the Tommy Igoe's "great hands for a lifetime". It's a awesome check to the rudiments preparations and the mp3 files for the warm-up they would have in everyone's daily routine

I only practice single strokes and double strokes for now. I've been drumming for 8 months or so. I think if I nail those two, the rest should come pretty easy. I do practice the Benny Greb letters with the sticks, if you play through all those, you get all kinds of rudiments.

Anyone trying the "Hybrid" rudiments? I'm starting to delve into them a bit. They all have really weird names (Cheese sticks, Scooby Doo's for example) and 90% of the time you use them to show off. I need to practice them for an audition and I was wondering if anyone else uses them or not.

I've messed around with some of the hybrid rudiments, actually found some of them applicable to jazz-type stuff. LOL what is the Scooby Doo?

Yeah, great link.
But these 40 rudiments are all at Vic Firth's website as well. With recordings and recorded applications, in different tempos, going 4 BPMs faster per recording - Extremely good for practicing!

On this site, if you click the tab "Education", and select "Education Resource Center" theres a lot of other exercises and jamtracks - My #1 bookmark <<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/smile.gif.

Nice. Thanks for the link.

my instructor hasnt really given me any practice with the rudiments but that doesnt stop me. what ill often do to make it more fun is choose a rudiment, say para diddle diddle. and jam to a song using it. making sure I work all variations of all 4 limbs. amazing how it can help your creativity.

Yesterday I descovered when practicing my Rudiments with my 11 month old boy next to me in his stroller that it puts him to sleep. I usaully stroll him around the house and that puts him out but yesterday he was fighting it so I decided to just start practicing and I guess the hits on the pad relaxed him. This was a great descovery for me. Now I can practice and watch my boy at the same time :)
